We're now done our unit on your own personal business. The next three weeks will be a return to non-fiction articles, with an overall emphasis on health. This week we're discussing nutritional health. Here are some of the goals for the week:
-Return to non-fiction reading, in order to prepare for the provincial exam
-Develop internet research skills
-Seek out and explore multiple perspectives on the same topic
-Develop essay writing skills
-Develop citation skills
Today we're reading two articles on the gluten-free diet. One is from the National Post, another is from the Guardian. You'll be answering questions in class or as homework, depending on how the time goes (/16). Here are the questions, to be answered for each article:
1. What is the article's main argument? /2
2. What are the pros and cons of the gluten-free trend, according to the article? /4
3. How has this article changed your perception on nutrition? /2
For Project #12, which will have more details provided by Wednesday, you'll be seeking out your own popular but debated eating belief, researching articles on them, and then reporting your findings in an essay.
